The world is losing the diversity of crops and their relatives in the wild at an alarming rate, despite the critical importance of that diversity to a sufficient, healthy food supply under climate change. If we rely only on a few crops, we might be missing opportunities to develop new plants and crops, or revive existing varieties, for our nutritional security and well-being.

Crop diversity that is safely conserved and available to researchers and farmers is the source of options we have at our disposal to respond to an uncertain future. In other words, a diversity of crops and diversity within crops mean a diversity of opportunities.
